My Reminiscences of a May

356d8875

May 1, 1989. It marked the beginning of an amazing saga in my life. It was  then that I started the life of an evangelist. Till the age of 32, God was only somewhere in my life. But at that age in 1988, God made me his own. It was Holy Mary who helped me to discover Jesus. My devotion to Holy Mary since childhood was an invaluable treasure that I inherited from my parents. With the dawn of May the statue of Holy Mary would be adorned with flowers.

It was Holy Mary who helped my birth as a new creation in March 1988. She appeared to me in a blessing posture after Jesus. Subsequently I had seen Her in numerous apparitions. It was in May 1989 that the latent love in me towards the Holy Mother came out. Even months prior to that, inspired by the Holy Spirit I used to go out with a Holy Bible in hand to pray in every house of the Suryanally village where I used to live during those days. I had pondered over ways to express my love towards the Holy Mother in the month of May. I obtained permission from Fr. Peter Mathirappally, Vicar of Suryanally to commemorate the month of May for the Holy Mother by saying the ‘veneration prayer’, the Rosary and a brief proclamation of the Word of God in the church which usually celebrated only a Holy Mass on Sundays.

Proclamation of the Word of God was a thirst for me. While a student in class IV I was asked by a Rev Sister to deliver a speech during the Sunday School Anniversary. Ignorant of how a speech was like, I sought the help of my elder sister who wrote one for me. I do still remember its opening lines: “As per the commandment of Jesus Christ to go out to the world and proclaim the word of God, his disciples went out to the world and proclaimed the Word of God”. Those lines uttered by me while in class IV were a call by the Holy Spirit to proclaim the Word of God, I perceive now. My thirst for proclamation increased after my encounter with Jesus in 1988. I wanted to say something about Jesus to someone. I had sought several times permission of the preachers whom I have known to grant me an opportunity to testify Jesus. But never have I got a chance. No, Jesus did not permit me to.

From May 1, 1989 onwards I proclaimed the Word of God for about twenty minutes each day. Participants in the prayer were very few and all of them were Tamilians. They numbered between twenty and thirty. After four days of service a thought came to my mind. Do they understand what I proclaim in Malayalam? On that day before going to bed I prayed to God to give them grace to understand in Tamil what I proclaim in Malayalam. It is said in the Acts (2:5-13) that when Peter proclaimed for the first time groups of people speaking more than sixteen languages heard him in their own tongues. That was why I prayed for giving them the grace to understand in Tamil what I proclaimed in Malayalam.

47052649KfJVOK_ph The next day I reached the church. We began the session with the Rosary and then passed on to the ‘veneration month prayer’. When the turn for proclamation came I took the microphone in my hand and started a prayer in Malayalam and then to proclaim. Hardly had I spoken for five minutes my voice changed, my language changed and I started proclaiming in Tamil. Frankly, I am an illiterate in Tamil. But I can communicate with Tamil workers with a smattering of Tamil. However, a great thing, something beyond my intellect and logic, happened. An illiterate in Tamil that I was, I spoke in Tamil for about an hour in that language! After a while I witnessed another miracle. Tamil people, all males, who seldom came to the church began coming in. There were many of them. When the service was over I asked them the reason for their coming. They told me that while in town they heard a speech in Tamil and they thought that some priest from Tamilnadu might be proclaiming in the church. From that day onwards males began to participate in the church prayers.

Then came the First Friday of the month. I used to give counselling on that day. Fr.Vicar had given me a room for that. In the previous months I have been going out to the village and praying in almost every house. This service was done on all Fridays. Since it was a very tedious task to reach many people I shifted the venue of prayer to the parish church. That was why counselling was done in the church. On that Friday after finishing counselling of the day and while proceeding to the church for prayer a woman rushed towards me. I told her that time for counselling was over and that it was time for prayer in the church. Yet she insisted me to pray over her which I did. Since then I began to feel restless day after day. My children began to cry out in their sleep terror-stricken and felt disturbed. On such occasions I used to pray for them with my palm placed on their head.

On the subsequent Wednesday I reached home for lunch from the farm land. There had formed in me the habit of saying the Rosary prior to lunch every day. That day while praying the Rosary something happened. I saw a serpent in front of me; it had three heads each one of them spitting fire. It was terrifying. It was a huge one with a two feet girth .It spat fire and vanished. All on a sudden another serpent with one head appeared spitting fire, that too vanished in a short while. I could not discern the meaning of these visions.

Came Friday. I reached the church and readied myself for the counselling service. I have been praying silently. A few persons were waiting for counselling outside the room. Suddenly a woman entered the room and sat on a chair. Hearing the noise I opened my eyes and recognized that it was the woman whom I had prayed over the previous Friday. Unmindful of her presence I resumed my prayer with closed eyes. After a while I felt that something was happening in front of me. I opened my eyes and saw the woman in a highly disturbed and contorted state. Her face was reddened. She stared at me wide-eyed. Her eyes too were reddened. There was an air of horror around. “What happened”? I asked. “I am afraid” she answered. “Don’t be afraid, Lord is in our midst”, I consoled her.

Again I elapsed into deep and intense prayer, unmindful of the ambience, as if in deep sleep and cut off from all relations. Suddenly a scream shook me and jolted and lifted me up from the seat. I felt my whole body shivering. The woman in front of me with terrifying looks and unkempt hair jumped from her seat. Stretching out her both hands as if to strangulate she came towards me. “You want to oust me”? She yelled. She could not get hold of me because there was a table which served as a buffer between us. Yet she came towards me by one side of the table. But soon I moved to the other side of the table facing her. Again she jumped towards me. And I turned to opposite side. When I felt certain of getting attacked I called out for help from outside. A few women came in. I asked them whether they could take her out. Four of them came forward and caught hold of her hands. No sooner had I thought that everything was settled than she simply shook off her hands to free herself, all the four were seen flying away. Soon all of them dashed out of the room.

I was tanding in the protection of a table. She tucked up her sari, and stood staring at me. Any time she might jump at me, I felt. I was shivering from top to bottom. I could not make out what was going on. I was totally ignorant of Satan and his ways. I called out: “bring somebody from her house”. I have been praying mutely, fearing disturbance in case of an audible prayer.

After a while her husband came. Seeing his wife in bewilderment he said: “It is devil, you pray, that is enough.” I did not understand him when he said that his wife was possessed by devil, for I was ignorant of devil. “Devil has been tormenting her for the past nine years. We administered medicines, performed witchcraft. Pentecost people prayed for her and a non-Catholic priest demanded Rs.5000 plus T.A. for exorcising but did not go for that for want of wherewithal. It was then that we came to know of your prayer,” he continued. Perceiving my exasperation he said again: “Don’t be afraid, pray, that is enough”. But I did not have the courage to pray for her. I said “It is time for the Rosary, I am going”. I went to the church for the Rosary. During the prayer I asked: “Lord, what is this?” I was terrified. Then the Lord said: “It is devil”. My younger brother also had come to the church for the Rosary. To him who had participated in renewal retreats, I explained the things. When I told him that it was devil he refused and said that it could be due to mental disturbance. After the Rosary we ag ain went to the room where the woman was in. 281156547A supervisor in our farmland by name Kunjappy alias Johnson aged about 50 also accompanied us. No sooner she saw us than she jumped to her feet and looked intensely at each of us. Seeing her changing moods and terrifying looks my brother asked her to look at him. To that she looked intimidating and showed certain wild gestures. After a while he muttered into my ears: “it is devil”. At that time I saw Johnson coming in with a large wooden cross. Placing the cross on the table he commented: “Is there a devil who is not terrified at the sight of a cross?” Then he ordered to her: “Hold this cross”. Her husband made her hold the cross with force. Placing their hands above them Johnson and my brother began to pray. I was watching the scene from a very close distance expecting something miraculous to happen. Suddenly she pulled out the cross and attempted to beat all of us with it; then I caught hold of it. There ensued a tussle between us, three of us on the one side and the woman and diabolic forces on the other for the three feet long cross. We managed to grab it somehow. What followed were eventful moments. She fell to the ground and started screaming and rolling. She was heavily built and therefore difficult to subdue. In that cacophony my brother, Johnson and myself placed our hands on her head and started praising Lord in a loud voice.

In three and a half hours eighteen evil spirits came out of her! Uninitiated in prayer as we were, we prayed whatever we knew and more of ‘Hail Mary’. Initially Satan tried to assault, terrorize and did everything to prevent us from continuing with the prayer. He employed many tactics like spitting on the face, screaming, producing horrendous sounds, scratching and kicking. In the meanwhile he said that we could not oust him and he would kill us. He was trying to terrorize and weaken our faith. We also on our part did not let him have his way. We had to do some wrestling to subdue him. We placed our hands on her head and prayed while her husband and a few others who accompanied them held her arms and legs tight. The evil spirits in her tried hard to resist such a prayer. At the end of two hours of prayer they agreed to go out of her. Thus in three and a half hours eighteen evil spirits went out of her one after another revealing their names. Thus she became free and sat up. Those cast out were the diabolic powers which had subjugated her in the past many years. When we returned home in great joy and amazement, it was past 12 o’ clock mid night.

I felt my body stinking. It did not leave even after a good bath. Stench of rotten meat! My brother and I could not have our food because of that. We applied some body spray and talcum powder on our body; yet the stench remained. We went back to the church, got inside and spent some time in prayer and then the stench vanished.

After Saturday, came Sunday. When we reached the church for the Holy Mass Fr Peter Mathirappally came rushing towards us. He told us that the woman whom we prayed over was missing. She ran away from home in the early morning. Some people have gone in search of her. Suddenly a fear gripped me. “O God, if something happened to her..?” But Reverend Father consoled me saying that nothing untoward would happen. We shall pray, he said. When the Holy Mass was going on, a large gathering of people came accompanying the woman. She was shut inside a room.

Soon after the Mass, Fr. Peter also joined us in prayer. Friday’s experience inspired us to pray intensely. That day also we prayed for about three and a half hours. As on Friday eighteen evil spirits were cast out of her. They had re-entered her because it was impossible to leave her, they said. After three and a half hours she became free. A large group of people had gathered outside the church. After she became free Fr Peter set out to bless her house heeding the request of her husband. Several villagers also joined us in that prayer. It was an event that created ripples in the village of Suryanally.

There was ‘group prayer’ in the church on every Friday. When I reached the church on the subsequent Friday, the church was houseful. The moment I started prayer there arose yells and screams from various parts of the church. Fear- stricken I turned back and saw many women and some men screaming and rolling on the ground. Evil spirits in them were coming out. I could not pay attention to them out of fear. I made a heart-rending prayer: “Lord I don’t have the courage to go near them, Lord, you may make them free”. After a while they became quiet. It was the beginning of a great service. It was from the service at Suryanally that I learned to bind, deliver and subdue evil spirits. It caused the conversion of many people in that place.

The ‘veneration prayer’ and the Rosary that started in May 1989 are still commemorated in every May in the Suryanally church. I consecrate with thanks the coming May to the Mother for having raised me as an evangelist, a devotee of Mother Mary and as one who has authority over evil spirits, and the Suryanally church which the Holy Spirit chose to impart me the rudiments of these and the several people who helped me in this. 2010 May is celebrated as a Great Festival of Pentecost at Ernakulam, Kerala. I offer a thousand thanks to the Mother who nurtured and raised me this much.

Are you a Born Again?

 Jesus

Are you a born again”? Recently a young man asked me. I said, “Yes I am a bornagain”. Looking at my neck he asked the second question: “Then why do you wear a rosary on your neck”? I said to him that I love Mother Mary. The third question he asked: “Who is your pastor? Which is your Church”? I said I am a Roman Catholic. Again he asked: “how did you take your baptism?; did someone immerse you in a river or in a pond”? I said, “I immersed myself in the living water”. “Living water?! What is that”? He asked. I said the living water is the Word of God. I immersed myself in the Word and IT cleansed me and sanctified me. I received the power of the Holy Spirit.

There are many around us looking for some prey, so that they can catch them and misguide them by misinterpreting the Word of God. Many catholics are falling in their trap. They teach that to get salvation one should be baptized again by immersing in water, because Jesus has said “The one who believes and is baptized will be saved’’ (Mark 16:16). They teach that only adult baptism gives salvation. Jesus was baptized only at the age of thirty.

When you hear such explanations what will be your response? Sometimes many keep quiet. It is a chance for them to mislead you because you are ignorant. Jesus was baptized only at the age of thirty; it is a fact. However, it may be noted that the Jewish people never had the custom of baptizing infants or adults. It was only John the Baptist who started to give baptism with water. So Jesus was baptized at the age of thirty. But when he was an infant his parents had completed all the practices required by the Jewish custom. Accordingly Jesus was circumcised on the eighth day (Luke 2:21) and presented in the temple (Luke 2:22).

Centuries ago our forefathers who were pagans were baptized as adults by some unknown believers and they became Christians. When they had children the latter were baptized in their infancy without their knowledge. If Jesus was circumcised on the eighth day and was presented in the temple on the 33rd day according to the custom of Moses what is wrong in baptizing a child? It may be noted that Jesus was circumcised and presented in the temple without his permission.

Through baptism one enters the kingdom of God, that is, he becomes a member of the kingdom of God. That membership entitles him to enter the kingdom of heaven after death. So by giving baptism to a child you are safeguarding its salvation. Baptism assures salvation, that is, entry into paradise, provided one leads a holy life. When a child is baptized he becomes eligible to enter heaven. Suppose the child dies without obtaining baptism where shall the soul go? Since that child is not a member of the kingdom of God it has no guarantee that it will be saved.

Jesus said “To enter in the Kingdom of God one has to be born by water and spirit” (John 3:5). The Holy Sacrament of baptism enables you to enter the kingdom of God. By baptism one is born by water and spirit. When Jesus was baptized he was immersed in the river of Jordan. When he came up from the water the Holy Spirit descended upon him. He was filled with the Holy Spirit. When a child is baptized with water and oil the Holy Spirit comes upon him. His body then becomes a temple of the Holy Spirit.

Those who oppose child baptism reject the Holy Spirit. It is God who creates every human being. It is His will to make everyone holy and his dwelling place. The Catholic faith is that with baptism the Holy Spirit makes the body of a child His holy temple.

We read in the Bible that one day some people carried a paralytic before Jesus. Seeing their faith Jesus said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven”. Then he said, “Stand up, take your mat and go to your home”. (Mark 2:1-12). Jesus healed the paralytic not because of his faith but because of the faith of the four people who brought him there.

A child is carried by four people to church for baptism, his parents and godparents. It is because of the faith of the parents that the Church baptizes the child. If Jesus healed the paralytic by seeing the faith of the four who carried him, what is wrong in baptizing a child when he is brought by his parents?

A child inherits all the good and bad qualities of parents. And he is an heir to the parents’ wealth as well. If a child inherits the character, image and wealth from parents can’t he inherit their spiritual wealth through child baptism?

Jesus said “You must be born from above’’ (Jn. 3:7). What is the meaning of born again? Born again experience happens in one’s inner being, not outwardly. We all are born of flesh. “What is born of the flesh is flesh” (Jn. 3:6)! Those who are born of the flesh are led by lust of the flesh. A child of God should not be led by the flesh, but by the Spirit of God. The Word says, “Those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God’’ (Rom. 8:14). To become a child of God, a spiritual being, one should be born from above. “Those who have been born of God do not sin, because God’s seed abides in them. They cannot sin” (1 Jn. 3:9).

Those who have been born of God do not sin. How can one be born of God? God is the creator of all. He created them in His image and resemblance. But men through their sins rejected God. They became children of the devil. “Those who commit sin is a child of the devil’’ (1 Jn. 3:8). “The children of God and the children of the devil are revealed in this way’’ (1 Jn. 3:10). So those who commit sin are the children of the devil. The devil makes them his children, not to love or save baptismbut to kill and destroy them. God wanted to redeem the children from the slavery of the devil. Those who have sinned are dead before God. So He wished to give them a new birth. For this God sends out His Word and saves everyone. “He sent out His Word and healed them and delivered them from destruction’’ (Ps. 107:20). It is the Word of God that gives a new birth to a sinner. By hearing and believing the Word of God one becomes a child of God. “But to all who received him who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God’’ (Jn. 1:12). To receive him means to receive his Word. Those who receive the Word and allow the Word to become flesh in their heart receive Jesus. They are born of God. They are led by the Spirit of God.

At the age of thirty-two I received the Word. I gave my heart to Jesus. Before that Jesus was not in my heart because the Word was not there. Though I was born in a Catholic family, I had never experienced Jesus in my life. But when I heard the Word in a charismatic retreat it changed my life. The Holy Spirit came into my life. In the year 1988 Lord touched me, changed me and anointed me. From that day onwards I have been experiencing the love of Jesus and the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life. I have completed 22 years of life with my Lord. God used me to preach the Word and to spread his kingdom. Thousands of people have changed their lives through my service. I received the anointing of the Holy Spirit not by immersing myself in water or changing the Church but by receiving, believing and obeying the Word of God.

I am born again by receiving the Word of God. I am born from above by the Word of God. Now I know I am a child of God led by the Holy Spirit. I participate in Holy Mass with a firm faith and I get life by receiving the Holy Communion. Holy Mary is my mother. She guides me, my family and this ministry. God uses me in a mighty way to anoint many people with his Holy Spirit. All these happen because I am born from the Word of God. The wrong interpretation of the Word by other Churches destroys the plan of God. The Catholic Church should teach people the Word of God. Jesus said, to enter in the kingdom of God one should be born of water and Spirit (John 3:5). Those who have entered the kingdom through baptism do not see or experience the kingdom because of their sins. They are spiritually blind. They cannot see the glory of the kingdom. Jesus says, “No one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above” (Jn. 3:3). Those who have entered the kingdom must see the kingdom. Therefore allow the Word to change their lives. The Word is the cleansing water. It will cleanse the heart and soul. Once it is cleansed by the Word the Holy Spirit will come into the heart. This is the real Born Again experience.

Through this one becomes a child of God. Then on the Holy Spirit leads him. He is the helper and teacher. He reveals the mysteries of the kingdom of God. May every Christian come to the light of Jesus through the Word of God. I repeat, it is not the water but the Word that renews our life. God bless you.

Save Our Souls - III

cmpicHell is the kingdom of the Devil, the throne of the ancient Serpent. The Oxford dictionary meaning of hell is “the place believed to be the home of devils and where bad people go after death.” The dominion, rule and control of the ancient serpent in hell make every lost soul his slave. The lost souls who are under the dominion of the ancient serpent are the evil spirits (Mt 10: 1). The fallen angels are also under the dominion of the serpent. They are known as demons (Lk 9:1).
The Apostles’ Creed says that Jesus after His death on the cross “descended into hell” in spirit CCC article 5. By His death on the cross Jesus destroyed “him who has the power of death, that is, the devil and delivered all those who through fear of death were subject to life- long bondage” CCC article 5 : 635. The Catechism teaches that hell is the place where Jesus after His death descended and delivered the lost souls. “The Gospel was preached even to the dead. The descent into hell brings the Gospel message of salvation to complete fulfilment” CCC 5:634. “He descended there as savoir proclaiming the good news to the spirits imprisoned there” CCC 5:632. The Catechism reveals many things through these teachings. (1) Christ descended into hell. (2) The lost souls who were prisoners of the devil were in hell. (3) Jesus preached the Gospel to the prisoners and delivered them.
The modern scholars of the Church changed the descent of Jesus into hell as ‘descended among the dead’. They are frightened to say that Christ descended into the kingdom of the devil, that is, hell. But remember Christ destroyed the devil on the cross, then, in spirit He descended there and opened the doors of hell for salvation. “In spirit He descended there and proclaimed the good news to the spirits imprisoned there” (1Pt 3: 19).
Catechism says that “Scripture calls the abode of the dead to which the dead Christ went down, hell. In Hebrew, it is known as Sheol and in Greek, Hades. The word HELL is originated from German and Dutch. Hell is the common name. In the different books of the Bible, Hebrew and Greek versions are used to mention about hell. In some Old Testament books the Hebrew word ‘Sheol’ is used while in others the Greek word ‘Hades’ is used. This gives to the common people an impression that Sheol is different from Hades. They distinguish Hell from Hades and Sheol. So we may understand that Hades and Sheol are the different names of Hell in different languages. In the New Testament we read about hell in the book of Luke where Jesus teaches about Lazarus and the rich man (Lk 16:19). The rich man died and his soul was taken into Hell or Hades. The poor man Lazarus also died and his soul was taken into Abraham’s bosom. The Catholic Bible ‘Revised Standard Version’ (RSV) calls the place as Hades where the rich man’s soul was taken. But the ‘King James Version’ Bible says the rich man was taken into Hell. Similarly in the book of Revelation 1:18 Jesus says “I have the keys of Death and Hell” (KJV). RSV says “I have the keys of Death and Hades.” The correct word is Hell.

A SOUL IN HELL

‘In Hades (Hell) where he was being tormented, he looked up and saw Abraham far away with Lazarus by his side. He called out, “Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in agony in these flames” (Lk 16: 23,24).
The rich man’s soul is crying for help. The soul looked up and saw Abraham. A soul can look and see things clearly. He can identify every one. He speaks and asks for help. He is experiencing the pain of fire in hell. Then he pleads to Abraham to send Lazarus to his father’s house. ‘He said, “Then father, I beg you to send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers, that he may warn them, so that they will not also come into this place of torment” (Lk 16:27-28). A soul in hell is worried about his family. He remembers everything. He is arguing with Abraham for his and of his family members’ salvation.
Through this parable Jesus proves that a soul is not dead. It lives forever. During death only the body dies. A soul cannot die, because it is a gift from God. A soul, whether it is in Paradise or Hell, is not dead. It can move, talk, see and do all necessary things. Jesus says “Now He is God not of the dead but of the living, for, to Him all of them are alive” (Lk 20:38). The dead are not dead before the eyes of the Lord. But for us the dead are dead. Jesus said, “It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is useless” (Jh 6:63). A soul is a spirit from God. It cannot die. But it is the flesh that dies.

Mental Ailments and Charismatic Retreats

477_Immaculate_Heart_of_Mary_Painting_--_August_22,_2006__edited-1Mental ailments among the participants in charismatic retreats which spread its roots since the 1970s have caused the society to view such retreats with fear and suspicion. ‘If you are charismatic you will go ‘crazy’’was a common saying  in those days. Why should the participants of a charismatic retreat go mad when the retreat per se is a divine work? Are these disturbances real mental disorders? Years back while participating in a retreat I heard the preacher thinking loudly at his perplexity at the phenomenon of people getting mentally ill or disturbed during retreat.

I would say that there exists a diabolic work to destroy renewal retreats and retreat centres. Thousands of people who have participated in charismatic retreats have suffered mental illnesses. Many of them have undergone treatment for the same as well. When people get mentally disturbed during retreats, in the absence of a proper diagnosis, they are branded as mental disorders and treated for the same. Several retreat centres have such ‘cells’ for rehabilitating mental patients. Once a youth while participating in a retreat turned violent. He was forcefully put in a cell and administered medicine. Later, his family members treated him in a hospital. He escaped from that place and while working elsewhere chanced to know of Spirit in Jesus and came to a retreat. He was cleansed by the Word of God, obtained a good counselling and went back quite normal. However, within a month he went to the old retreat centre for retreat and again became violent. It took months of treatment for him to return to the normal state. This happens because of different perceptions of the same problem by different preachers.

On the basis of the experience we have in the past few years we do not refer a person who exhibits mental disturbances to medical treatment immediately. First we pray for him incessantly for a few days and medical reference will be made only when he does not return to normality even after that. Every mental disorder need not be diabolic or mental disease as such. I know a person who was terminated from military service 28 years ago on grounds of mental disease. Ever since he has been under medical treatment which not only did not do any good but made matters worse. One year ago he was brought for a retreat at our retreat centre. He was totally out of senses. His wife was with him. While talking about him he made a sprint to escape. Spirit in Jesus Team members followed and caught hold of him. I told his wife of our inconvenience to admit him into the group of 500- odd people who had come for the retreat. I asked her to take him away. With tearful eyes she beseeched me not to turn him away since that (retreat) was her last hope. Empathizing with her plight I permitted him into the retreat. To prevent his escape he was put within an enclosure made of desks and a few Team members as guard. The person who could not sleep at all in the past very many days could get some sleep during the retreat. He was quite tranquil during the retreat days. Since he has been ailing and under medication in the last 28 years I advised him to consult an expert psychiatrist and accordingly he did so. He returned home completely healed and in his own senses. It required both prayer and medication to heal that 28 year-old ailment.

Mental disorders are caused by swelling of human brain tissues. There is nothing wrong in setting right those medically incurable disorders with prayer and those which cannot be healed only through prayer with medicine. I have witnessed innumerable instances of persons under medication for years getting healed with prayer. In a group of 500 participants in a retreat at least a 100 will have mental ailment of some sort or the other. I don’t claim that all or none has been healed, but many have been healed.

Why do people become mentally restive while in a retreat? Evil spirits behind this restlessness is a fact. Why do evil spirits come out during prayer? The Bible gives an answer for that. All the evil spirits who have encountered Jesus have recognized Him. Since He is Son of God no one can hide away from Him. In the New Testament we see Jesus giving authority to His disciples. “Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness” (Mat 10:1).Since evil spirits are behind every disease and sickness, Jesus commanded to cast out evil spirits and to cure every disease and sickness. Jesus gave authority to his disciples over demons as well. “Then Jesus called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal” (Lk 9:1).Evil spirits or unclean spirits are the lost souls who are under the dominion of the devil. Demons are the fallen angels. Though evil spirits and demons belong to two different categories they are generally known as devils or diabolic forces. Since evil spirits behave like devils they are also sometimes known as devils.

In the ministry of the Apostles of Jesus we see evil spirits manifested (Lk 10:17). In Acts 8:6-8 evil spirits come out in a ministry of Philip and in Acts 16:16 we read St Paul casting out evil spirits from a slave girl. It is through the power of the Holy Spirit and in the Name of Jesus that evil spirits are cast out and subdued. Jesus himself has said that: “it is by the spirit of God that I cast out demons” (Mt 12:28).When the Word of God is spoken during retreats the presence of Jesus ushers in; similarly, during the prayer of Anointing the presence of the Holy Spirit also comes in. It is then impossible for the evil spirits dwelling in people to remain hidden. They come out; manifest. When an evil spirit manifests in an individual his whole being - conscious mind and body - would be under the control of the evil spirit. Whatever he does or utters are not borne out of his conscious mind. An evil spirit does not like to reveal its identity; all its utterances will be lies. And it will be under the hegemony of Satan, the ancient serpent. It requires intense prayer for the revealing of an evil spirit which manifests in a violent form in the possessed person. It requires the power of the Holy Spirit to cast out an evil spirit for which intense and incessant prayer is a must. Since 1997 we the Spirit in Jesus ministry have not been casting out evil spirits, but make them surrender in the name of Jesus. Hours long prayer makes them surrender and accept Jesus as their Saviour. Intervention of Holy Virgin Mary is the only recourse for crushing the hegemony of the ancient serpent over the evil spirit; through the incessant recitation of the 153 beads of the Holy Rosary the power of Satan is wiped out and the slave-soul is freed. Since the evil soul is a human soul it has to be absolved of its sin in the name of Jesus and sanctified by the blood of Christ. Then it ushers into eternal salvation, freeing the possessed person in the process. This is the deliverance service, the way to salvation. Without the completion of this service, if the manifestation of the evil spirit is trivialized as a psychological phenomenon, we foreclose the salvation of souls.

The rich man in Hell makes two entreaties to Abraham (Lk: 16:19-31).The first is: send Lazarus with succour to him; and second, to send him to his brothers to forewarn them about this place of retribution. To the second, Abraham answered that they may listen to Moses and the prophets i.e., The Word of God. Then Abraham told him that they would not be convinced even if someone who has risen from the dead had gone to them.

A major theme of a conference of psychiatrists held in Switzerland a few years back was the voices of the dead heard by the mental patients. In fact this is a major problem of the mentally ailing people. They hear voices…of persons long dead from their families and of others. There are around us numerous mentally ailing persons for whom known medications are ineffective. Psychiatry could not recognize this as voices of the dead. In fact it is voices of the dead. Why does it happen at all? Truly the dead in bondage are trying to say something. That is why many are hearing the voices of the dead.

The roots of the present generation lie in the by-gone generations. The genealogies provided in the Old and New Testaments are proofs of this. Even though Jesus is not born of man His genealogy is given both by St Mathew and St Luke. Even generations after the passing of forefathers our relations with them do not cease. Medical science acknowledges the existence of hereditary diseases. Asthma, rheumatism, mental ailments and many others belong to this category. Medical science tells us about the hereditary diseases passed on to us through genes and chromosomes.

When a child is formed as a foetus in the womb of a woman the hegemony of generation is transmitted through genes to its blood and unconscious mind. The influence of generations abides in human body and its members through blood. We know that our own members of the body lead us to commit certain sins. If it may be the lust in his eyes that lead one person to sin, it may be the tongue for another. If it is one’s hand, it may be sexual organ for another that causes them to sin. We may recognize that some of our own members of the body are slaves of sin. Alcoholism is a passion of the blood; and adultery, of either the mind or the body.

Jesus said: “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”(Mk 7:20-23). A person commits sin since these sins abide within him, i.e.in his heart. Why does the son of a person who was not an adulterer become a fornicator? Why does the son of a teetotaller become a drunkard? Conversely, why does the son of a drunkard become a teetotaller? These are not incidental. The sins influencing the four children of the same parents would be different. The Psalmist says: “Indeed, I was born guilty, a sinner when my mother conceived me.”(Psalm 51:5). In fact this is a pitiable state of every human being. It is through genes that sins are transmitted from ancestors to descendents, but differently among each one of them.

When Jesus teaches that sins abide in the heart of a person, St Paul the Apostle tells that they abide in the body. “But in fact it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells with me. For I know that nothing good dwells with me, that is in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand”(Rom 7:17-21). The Apostle teaches that sin abides in the body. It abides in the blood and in the members of the body.

Since sin is merely a deed how could that, which abides in me make me commit sin? Sin does not have a life of its own. The words that proceed from my tongue are its deeds. Here the tongue is the doer and the words are the deeds. The pen with which I write is an inanimate object. But when I use my hands to write, letters appear. It was my hands that made the pen do the work of writing. Sin is inanimate in itself. It requires a human body to act. The human body requires an agent to activate sin. Sin is a work of the Devil. “Everyone who commits sin is a child of the Devil” (1Jn 3:8) Sin is inanimate and the Devil is a living spirit. When it influences sin, the latter comes to life.

There is the influence of sin in the blood of the forefathers which came to me through the genes. There is sin in the blood and heart of a sinner. It is transmitted into his offspring. Subsequently parents die in sin. Since they die in sin and the blood of the children contains an element of sin the souls of parents can influence their children. Since the souls of sinners do not usher into salvation it wanders through dry lands and finally they influence and possess those born of their blood as their rightful due. This makes the influenced and the possessed slaves of sin. In fact, it is the evil spirits and not the devils which trick men to sin. And these evil spirits are the evil souls of the dead.

Among the evil spirits which influence the mind and body there are some which wish to be saved while some do not. Spirits can influence everybody in this world; but they cannot possess all. It is the violation of the First Commandment by a person and his generations that causes the evil spirits to possess them. Possession in the body and heart makes one susceptible to hear their voices. Influence on the mind and brain causes them to exert control over the mind. Influence on the blood and members of the body leads to passions. Do not eat the sacrificial offerings to idols, is God’s Commandment (1 Cr 10:28).However, it will be ruinous if a Christian eats it in the name of religious harmony and love towards one’s neighbor. Through these objects evil spirits enter and establish hegemony over a person. During prayer services these spirits appear and behave like mental patients .Some years ago a family of husband and wife as members of another religion participated in our retreat. Secretly, without the knowledge of anyone, they came to participate in it. On the last day the wife became very agitated and started behaving like a mental patient. Even when the retreat was over they were not ready to go back. The husband said that if they went back home in that condition they would be killed. ‘You must pray’ they insisted. On the third day the woman became free. During all this time the woman vomited many times. At the same time she was murmuring about all the sacrificial food offered to idols that she had taken and about all the gods of this world that had taken possession of her. We prayed for all those conditions. We became aware of the possession she was under and of the great mercy that the Lord had shown her, though she was of a different religion. The Lord healed her completely. From that time through many other situations we became more aware of the importance of foods offered to idols. I do not say that every mental derangement is the result of possession by evil spirit. I have seen individuals behaving like a possessed one, in order to get attention or love from others. This can happen either because of some wounds or subjugation of the mind. Once during a retreat a young man became violent and some people began to pray for him as though he had been possessed by the evil spirit. Even after a long time he was not free. At that time Sr.Catherine Mariam came in to that room. Immediately she said that there were no evil spirits in him. Then she told him: ‘there is no evil spirit in you, get up.’ He immediately sat up as a normal person. It was the sudden feeling of love towards a girl that made him act like a possessed one. Through good counselling he became free. I have seen many persons who behaved like possessed ones become normal when Sr Catherine Mariam tells them that they are not possessed and that they are free. I have also seen persons who act like the possessed saying they are possessed by living persons. Prayer and the Word with authority and power make these persons free. There are persons who lose sleep during the days of retreat. When they get good sleep they become free.

Violation of the First Commandment, eating foods offered to idols, and keeping forbidden objects can make a person unsound in mind. The forbidden objects that are kept at retreat centres are occasions for Satan to attack human beings. We must recognize the disorientations we experience during prayer services; we must bind and chase out those that are evil spirits. If they are mere mental disorientations, they can be healed through good counselling and prayer of binding. Constant praying of the Rosary and intercessory prayer for the souls will help to save many souls. When evil spirits appear, instead of preventing the saving of souls by interpreting them as mental derangements, free these souls by praying for them. We shall thus make practical what Jesus and the Apostles taught.

Curses and Deliverance

Human life at every level - individual, family and societsacredheart4y - is in great distress these days. It is increasingly frustrating as time passes. Many suffer grave physical ailments and mental diseases and resort to medical remedies. The number of sterile couples and suicides continue to increase. Mental ailments are widespread. Terrorism has overrun the world. In Kerala too, showcased as God's own country, terrorism seems to have a diabolic grip. Many are getting crushed under the weight of economic slump and indebtedness.

Why is it that human life is in so much grief and despair? Though science has made great progress, man does not seem to enjoy peace and serenity in life; his problems remain unresolved and puzzling as ever. Many comfort themselves as fate and God-given; some consider it as human suffering. But does God really want man to have this suffering? In other words, does God give man sufferings? No is the unequivocal answer. The Word of God is emphatic: "For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope."(Jer 29:11)

God makes clear - those things that ail, torment and destroy man - His image, are not according to God's script. On the contrary, God wishes man to have hope and welfare. If so, why do people suffer? The Bible calls these, curses. God only blesses; He does not curse. "If you heed these ordinances, by diligently observing them, the Lord your God will maintain with you the covenant loyalty that he swore to your ancestors; he will love you, bless you, and multiply you; he will bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the issue of your flock, in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. You shall be the most blessed of peoples, with neither sterility nor barrenness among you or your livestock."(Deu7:12- 15).These are God's promises which encompass the worldly as well. Sterility, sickness and economic depression are not from God.

Curses
Curses are the satanic interventions which inhibit a person from enjoying the blessings of God. A sin is a personal doing and if a person dies without genuine repentance then that sin becomes a curse on his/her children. Sins of parents fall on children as curse and not as sin. "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us - for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree" (Gal3:13).It is because of the existence of curse that Christ became cursed; He redeemed us from the curse of the law. Law is God's law. They are His commandments revealed to us through the Word of God. Therefore, every Word of God is a commandment. One should not think that the Ten Commandments alone are God's laws. Every Word of God given to us is a Commandment of God. Curse of law are curses that came through law. Since law consists of God's commandments and every Word of God, curses come from the Word of God. How do curses come from the Word of God? Curses originate from the sin caused by disobedience to the Word of God. If one man's violation of law is sin for him, it becomes a curse on his children. It was from this curse that Christ redeemed us.

Some allege that proclamation on 'curse' is a trap to snare the innocents. In fact, it is the converse that is true; i.e., proclamation on the non existence of 'curse' is to take an 'ostrich-like attitude'. It amounts to avoiding our responsibility. The very acknowledgement of the existence of curse contains the seeds of a solution; rejection leads to the highway to damnation.

To negate the existence of curse some people take recourse to the Word of God itself especially John 9:1 onwards. When Jesus opened the eyes of a blind boy, his disciples asked: "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents that he was born blind?" Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God's works might be revealed in him"(Jn 9:2-3).Since Jesus asserted that it was not due to his or his parents' sin that he became blind, the argument that 'children would be punished for parents' sin' is false. Those who argue on the basis of this episode may bear in mind that Jesus healed other blind, deaf and dumb by casting out evil spirits from them. For instance: "Then they brought to him a demoniac who was blind and mute; and he cured him, so that the one who had been mute could speak and see"(Mat12:22).Another instance: "After they had gone away, a demoniac who was mute was brought to him. And when the demon had been cast out, the one who had been mute spoke; and the crowds were amazed and said, "Never has anything like this been seen in Israel"(Mat9:32-33).These two incidents testify that Jesus healed them by casting out evil spirits. Then why do dead/evil spirits possess a person? These two people must have been possessed by evil spirits from birth. Take another episode. In Mark 9:14-29 Jesus heals an epileptic boy. The boy's father said that he has been possessed by a dumb spirit from childhood. It has dashed him many times to water and fire to destroy him. "And they brought the boy to him. When the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth (Mark: 9:20). "When Jesus saw a crowd running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit ,saying to it, you spirit that keeps the boy from speaking and hearing, I command you ,come out of him, and never enter him again! After crying and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, "He is dead."(Mark 9:25-26).

Why did an evil spirit possess the boy at childhood? Usually an evil spirit possesses a person for two reasons: 1.person's sin, and 2.sins of the ancestors. A person becomes possessed on these counts only. If evil spirits could possess anybody then the whole of humanity would have been possessed. While some people are possessed by evil spirits, others in the same position are not. But this is not due to anybody's merit. It is the ignorance to discern evil spirits from demons that some tend to assert that children would not be punished for the sins of the ancestors. Evil spirits are the souls of those who died in sin, living under the slavery/hegemony of the devil and Satan, the ancient dragon. However, demons are the fallen angels. A perception on this could be obtained from a careful reading of the Bible. On how the souls of the dead become evil spirits, I shall write later. In the Book of Lamentations, it is written: "Our ancestors sinned; they are no more, and we bear their iniquities." (Lam: 4:7). Yes, the Word of God says that children bear the iniquities of the ancestors who have sinned. 'Slaves rule over us' means that slave souls -evil spirits rule over us. This is particularly true in this generation. The biblical tradition is that the devil/Satan is behind man's every suffering. He works using evil souls who are capable of influencing all and possessing some. Evil spirits are behind hereditary diseases, family problems, suicide, mental disorders, epilepsy, various physical ailments, paralysis, adultery, alcoholism, murder, hatred, homosexuality, riots, natural disasters and many others. Evil souls are the media through which curses are transmitted down the generations. Heredity influences the birth of morons and disabled children. The influence of evil spirits behind chronic abortions has been recognised. However, after undergoing 'binding prayers' many such victims of abortion have given birth, instances of and witnesses to such cases are many.

The father of the epileptic boy reported that he has been possessed by a soul. It was an evil spirit - an epileptic, deaf and dumb soul in the ancestry of the boy. This is curse. Ancestors, who died in sin, remaining unredeemed, become slaves of Satan. Through blood relations, genes and ancestry, they influence children and subsequent generations. This is the real curse.

98-04 "Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us" (Gal 3:13).Many assert that there is no curse at all because Jesus Christ died for us. This is untenable. Unless each individual personally experiences the salvation that Jesus Christ grants, no one can claim freedom from sin or curse. There is no greater travesty of truth than to argue that there is salvation for all since Jesus Christ died for us on the cross. The salvation that Jesus grants us is personal. To personalize it, one has to believe in Him and repent over sins. "Those who believe in Him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God" (Jn 3:18). Thus, faith is the core of salvation. If so how can one experience freedom when the ancestors who are the cause of curse remain under the slavery of the devil? One can get absolution from sin on repentance. However, to free one from curse, ancestors whose sins have caused the curse have to be redeemed. Tearful prayers, abstinence and charity are the remedy. Our deliverance depends on their freedom. Can one be free from curse without absolution from sin? No! First, I have to free myself from my sin. Second, I have to liberate my ancestors through my prayers. That is how curses are banished. When I tread God's ways, no curse shall befall me.

False teachings on curses originate from a wrong perception of Ezek 18:1 and Jer 31:29. "What do you mean by repeating this proverb concerning the land of Israel, "The parents have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge"? (Ezek 18:2). "In those days they shall no longer say: "The parents have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge."But all shall die for their own sins; the teeth of everyone who eats sour grapes shall be set on edge" (Jer 31:29-30).

Why is it that the teeth of children are not set on edge even though their parents ate sour grapes? To put it bluntly, why are children not punished for the sins of the ancestors? Answer to this is obtained in a subsequent Word of God. "Yet you say, "Why should not the son suffer for the iniquity of the father? When the son has done what is lawful and right, and has been careful to observe all my statutes, he shall surely live."(Ezek 18:19)The Word of God is very clear: no one who obeys His commandments and keeps the Word of God would be punished. Curses would not proceed from them. However, for those who disobey the commandments and violate the Word of God, it will be a cause for their condemnation, and damnation of their subsequent generations.

The sin of Adam, has it not befallen earth as a curse? (Gen 3:17).Has not the sin of Cain also befallen earth as a curse? (Gen 4:11).God told Cain: "And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. When you till the ground, it will no longer yield to you its strength; you will be a fugitive and wanderer on the earth."(Gen 4:11- 12).Cursed became Cain, his subsequent generations and earth, and it was due to the sin of Adam. Curse on the earth is the cause of misery of man. Heed Jesus Himself: "So that upon you may come all the righteous bloodshed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar."(Mat 23:35).You and I are not personally responsible for the blood of either Abel or prophets. Yet their blood befalls us because 'children would be punished for the sins of the ancestors.' Let us strive for the redemption of the ancestors in earnest and be not an ostrich.

Save Our Souls II

“The (Catholic) Church teaches that every spiritual soul is created immediately by God. It is not “produced” by the parents and also that it is immortal: it does not perish when it separates from the body at death, and it will be reunited with the body at the final Resurrection” (CCC 366)

When the body dies the soul leaves it. It cannot die; it can neither transform to an angel nor to a Devil. However, it can become a holy soul or an unclean soul, depending on how that person lived. A holy soul is known as a Saint. But to speak about a sinner soul no qualifying terms are used. In the Scripture we read about Saints. But in the letter to Corinthians St Paul speaks about a man who lives in sexual immorality. He says that this “man should be handed over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord” (1Cor. 5:1-5) in the belief that if he is handed over to the devil the latter will torture him and destroy the flesh and through his sufferings he may be able to attain sanctification.

What happens to the soul of a person who dies in sin? Jesus teaches that “Everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin” Jn 8:34. By committing a sin a person becomes a slave of sin. Sin is a product of the devil. It is not human weakness; it comes from the devil. “Everyone who commits sin is a child of the devil” 1Jn 3:8. So when someone dies with sin he is already a slave of the devil. A slave is one under dominion. Therefore the soul of a sinner cannot either see God or enter Heaven. He will be taken to hell, the kingdom of the devil.

Evil Souls

Many scholars and pastors believe and teach that the souls are asleep and will be woken up at the sound of God’s trumpet on the Judgment Day. That is not the truth. Souls are not sleeping. The good souls, called the Saints, are in Paradise. But they don’t behold God the Father but only experience His presence and love. However, in the company of Jesus and Mary they experience the joy and happiness of the kingdom of heaven while praying and interceding for the whole world.

But the evil souls under the dominion of the devil suffer in the fires of Hell. The devil tortures and forces them to obey his orders. He gives them his image, character and power and uses them to attack men, other creations of God and the kingdom of God itself. These evil souls are the evil or unclean spirits which Jesus cast out from the many “possessed” persons. It was to cast them out and to cure every disease that Jesus gave authority and power to his disciples. Mathew 10:1

The world may deem it crazy when I say that the evil spirits are evil souls. But the numerous encounters that I faced in the last twenty years taught me that the evil spirits are the lost souls.Since1989 the Holy Spirit led me through the ‘spirit- world’ and revealed many secrets hidden in the word. From 1997 onwards I started to preach about this. The Holy Spirit taught me that the evil spirits are the lost souls and that they can be saved. From my encounters with the netherworld, I would say that about ninety per cent of souls are in the dark pit, the Hell. They have to be redeemed. But their salvation is not so easy. It is the resultant of the battle between Mother Mary and the ancient serpent. The power and authority are given to mary to deliver the souls from the dominion of the serpent. I shall come to this aspect later.

Purgatory

There is no direct reference to Purgatory in the Bible. Jesus and the apostles have not taught about it. However, it is a belief and teaching of the Catholic Church. “All who die in god’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation, but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven”. CCC.1030. “The church gives the name Purgatory to this final purification of the elect, which is entirely different from the punishment of the damned. The church formulated her doctrine of faith on Purgatory at the Councils of Florence and Trent. The tradition of the Church, by reference to certain texts of Scripture, speaks of a cleansing fire.

As for certain lesser faults, we must believe that, before the Final Judgment, there is a purifying fire.” CCC.1031.

It is true that one must be purified before entering Heaven. But what are the lesser faults from which one has to be purified? Is hatred a lesser fault? “All who hate a brother or sister are murderers and you know that murderers do not have eternal life abiding in them” 1 Jn 3:15. Is saying a lie a lesser fault? “A lying mouth destroys the soul”. Wis 1:11.  Therefore, a liar cannot enter Heaven. Those who hate others are murderers. They cannot enter Heaven. Then where will all these souls go? To purgatory or to Hell? Purgatory is the place for purification from lesser faults. Murder is not a lesser fault. Therefore those souls should go to Hell. According to the teaching of the Church they have undergone Particular Judgment which cannot be changed in the Final Judgment. Prayers for them are therefore redundant. Is it true?

If hatred is a mortal sin what about other sins? Millions of people are living in sin and dying with sin. Sins like adultery, homosexuality, bestiality, drunkenness, murder and the like are mortal sins. The Word says: “now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God”. Gal 5:19-21

Those who have committed such sins are sinners and they cannot go to Heaven or Purgatory. Remember, Purgatory is the place for those who have done lesser faults. And St Paul says that those who have done such sins will not inherit the kingdom of God. If they cannot inherit the kingdom of God they will not inherit the kingdom of Heaven also. The kingdom of God is on this earth and kingdom of Heaven is paradise.

Ironically many people, however, believe that all souls are in Purgatory. But in reality only a few are in Purgatory and the rest, millions of souls are in Hell. The deceptive interpretation of Hell and Purgatory leads to the damnation of millions of souls. A thorough study of the teachings of the Church is needed to bring out the truth. May the word of God enlighten our hearts; and may the Holy Spirit and Wisdom remove every wrong conviction from our conscience.
